STEC Inc. (head office in Kyoto; president: Atsushi Horiba), a Horiba group company and a manufacturer of mass flow measuring devices for semiconductor manufacturing equipment, has acquired the manufacturing license, dealership, and technical patents for all products, such as pressure-sensor-type fluid control equipment, of FuGasity Corporation (Nevada, USA), a US measuring equipment venture. STEC Inc. intends to develop next-generation devices by incorporating new technologies by the end of this year, and to sell them from next year. Although the value of the buyout has not been announced, it is put at several hundred million yen. STEC Inc. has about a 40 percent share of the global market of mass flow controllers that measure and control gas mass flow in the semiconductor film forming process. The main products of FuGasity are the same type of controllers, and control gas mass flow with a pressure sensor, whereas STEC's models do so with a heat sensor. |
