STEC Inc. Obtains Exclusive Sales Rights for Ferran (U.S.) Products |

STEC Inc. (located in Kyoto, Japan) on April 22 announced the signing of an agreement with the U.S. company Ferran Scientific Inc. for technical cooperation and worldwide exclusive sales rights regarding Ferran Scientific vacuum analysis instruments. With this agreement, the company will add vacuum control technologies to its fluid measurement and control devices for semiconductor manufacturing processes, an area in which the company has a top share. This agreement is also aimed at allowing the Horiba Group (of which STEC is a member) to develop and expand applications for Ferran's fundamental technologies. Through this collaboration with Ferran Scientific, STEC has obtained worldwide exclusive sales rights for Ferran Scientific's residual gas analyzers (RGA) and capacitance diaphragm gauges (CDG). Both are used mainly in semiconductor membrane formation processes. STEC also obtained manufacturing rights for CDG. STEC projects total annual sales of 3.4 billion yen (about U.S.$28 million) for both products in three years. Ferran Scientific is a startup company that develops and manufactures vacuum analysis instruments. Through its proprietary manufacturing technologies it has miniaturized and improved the performance of RGA and CDG, successfully reducing RGA devices in particular to less than one-tenth the weight of conventional products.
